Levels and Course Progression

This four level course offers to adult learners the opportunity to build on their language proficiency and at the same time prepare them for their life-skills roles in the community, family, school, and at work.

It is designed for adults who have had the opportunity to re-establish themselves in The United States and have to need to actively become members of society through the acquisition of language proficiency and the understanding of their role in their communities, some of which will have the opportunity to become American citizens.

Evaluations, Exams, Placement Tests
All new students at The Philadelphia School of Languages must take an initial placement test. This test can be followed by other secondary level tests or final tests in order to assess their knowledge of English grammar and communication skills.
These placement tests serve to allocate students in appropriately levelled groups, whether ongoing or new.
Exams are given two times per semester and students must have positive results in order to progress into the next levels. Mid-Book and Final Exams are mandatory.
Group Lessons – Availability and Semesters
Here at The Philadelphia School of Languages we offer students the flexibility to study according to their needs and schedule. The school is open seven days a week, group and private lessons are available mornings, afternoons, evenings and nights. Group classes have limited class sizes and do not follow traditional semesters. Our groups are small, usually ranging from 3 to 10 students so that students are better able to interact with teachers and peers.
Groups can start at any time of the year, and have duration of six months per level. Upon completion and Final Exams, groups can either immediately start the next level, take a small break or according to class size and availability migrate to other groups. Official certificates/diplomas are awarded to students upon successful completion of each level
Group class schedules are available only at the school office. Contact us for further information.
Optional Review Levels
One of the benefits of studying English at The Philadelphia School of Languages is that our ESL students have the option of participating in one addition group class of the previous level in order to review and reinforce what they have already learned at no additional cost.
Example: Level 4 Classes 2x/week + (Level 3 Classes 2x/week *Optional Free participation in Group)
